Overview
Foxmail for Mac is a freeware email client originally created by Allen Zhang, which received wide distribution and popularity after it became an official mail client of Chinese internet service provider Tencent. During the height of its popularity, Foxmail for macOS managed to attract over 32% market share of all email clients in China and have over 3 million daily users from China.
However, due to some of the backend upgrades this app received under the oversight of Tencent, many worldwide users decided to not upgrade to a newer version and stick to the latest stable release that was released by Allen Zhang. Even with this controversy, the Fox mail app managed to retain its popularity due to its wide array of features, streamlined UI, and lightweight operation.
As an email client, this app will satisfy both home and small business users. It features a traditional interface for listing emails, separating them by directories and labels, comprehensive message editor, scheduler, group message manager (powered by QQ), push notifications, import/export function, and many other features that are found in other popular clients.
After many years in service, the latest version of Foxmail for Mac features a redesigned interface and adoption of many new features and services that make this email client suitable not only for Mac novices and home use but also for deployment in large businesses. One of the most notable addition is the integration with an easy-to-use and feature-rich notepad, where your data can be easily gathered, organized, and even synced across all Foxmail clients on desktop and mobile.
The client also features synchronization with Cloud services such as Storage drives or Contact databases and can even be unlocked to work with extra-large attachments (that can be well over 1GB in size).
Some of these advanced features are not present in the popular version 5.0.8, which was the last version before the app was purchased by Tencent. Under Tencent, It has received numerous upgrades, and is as of early 2020 well into version 7.2, with new features planned for the future.
