Overview
Google Photos App for Mac is the official photo sharing and storage service developed by Google. Originally released in 2011 as the part of the social network platform Google+, Google Photos was separated into a standalone service in May of 2015 after which it becomes one of the most widely used photo storage platforms in the world with over 1 billion active users who are uploading on average over 28 billion photos and videos each week.
The Mac app allows users to access their photo storage that is available to every holder of the Google account, and take advantage of the streamlined photo backup, organization, management, and sharing tools. This app also allows users to easily access their photos and upload new ones without being forced to use an internet browser, and manually navigate to the Google Photos web app.
The core features present in the Google Photos App are access to all uploaded photos, built-in search tools, Visual Search option that enables searching of people, places, and things that appear inside the photos, automatic backup of newly detected photos and images from the Mac, automatic generation of movies, interactive stories, animations and collages from your static photos, built-in tool for photo editing (resizing, filters, adjusting colors and much more), dynamic filters for one-click photo enhancement, option to stabilize your handled mobile phone videos that are uploaded to Google Photos and comprehensive sharing tools that allow not only sharing of photos via URL link, but also a built-in messaging system for more streamlined sharing of photos and albums to other google account holders.
Between 2015 and mid-2021, Google Photos was one of the most popular mobile apps that created a cloud copy of photos made by billions of Android and iOS users, with a popular feature of unlimited storage space for photos that were up to 16megapixels in size. However, Google has announced that they will stop their unlimited storage offering in mid-2021, forcing users to purchase monthly or yearly storage extensions.
Google Photos App is 100% FREE and can be downloaded on any Mac running a modern version of macOS. The app requires users to log in using their Google profiles. There is no premium in-app unlocks or advertisements, except for the option to purchase larger online storage on Google cloud servers.
