Overview
Logitech Unifying Software for Mac is a software package that will enable users of Logitech's famous Unifying Receiver dongle to take full advantage of wireless pairing with a multitude of input devices (such as mice, keyboards, trackpads, and trackballs) with incredible ease. Built on top of nRF24L-family of RF devices and 2.4 GHz band radio communication standard, the Logitech Unifying receiver enables home and professional users to stop relying on multiple dongles for establishing and maintaining a separate connection to their Mac input peripherals.
Instead, this small USB dongle can manage up to six compatible Logitech human interface devices, and once set up even maintains those pairings on a new desktop that do not feature any Logitech control management software.
It is very important to note that Logitech Unifying for macOS receiver is not relying on regular Wi-Fi or Bluetooth communication and authentication standards but is instead built on top of the Unifying protocol that is promoted by the small sun-like orange logo that is present both on the receiver and compatible devices.
Devices with his logo cannot be paired with off-brand Wi-Fi or Bluetooth dongles released by other manufacturers. In addition to streamlined pairing features, this device and accompanying software package features security and stability solutions for preventing connection issues, hijacking of wireless data (mouse-jacking and key-jacking), and direct in-app support for updating the firmware of the connected devices. This last feature is especially useful for owners of multiple Logitech devices, providing them with an easy and streamlined way of managing firmware updates on all their input peripherals.
Logitech Unifying Software application features a single window with no in-depth configuration options. The main screen consists of the list of discovered devices on the left, and the status listing for each of the presented items.
The app can handle more than one Unifying USB dongle. Status info on the right consists of the device’s name, wireless connection status, battery charge info, firmware version, and two buttons – one for pairing/un-pairing and one for updating device firmware (this button will be greyed out if the app detects no new available updates).
On the bottom of the app there are just three other buttons - Check for Updates button for downloading a newer version of the app, Configure Updates management service and Save System Report feature for easier troubleshooting of connected hardware.
The procedure for pairing new devices is simple and intuitive. Simply find the device that you want to connect to from the list of discoverable accessories in the top left panel of the app, click Pair, and then proceed to follow on-screen instruction that will ask form you to perform a specific pairing task. For keyboards, that can be typing a word and then confirming to the app that your Mac has received key inputs without errors.
Logitech Unifying Software is 100% FREE and optimized for use on all modern versions of macOS.
