Overview
Basic Calculator is a simple name for a simple app that intentionally strives to remove complexity and provides an easily accessible environment for anyone seeking to focus only on the simplest functions.
While almost all other modern calculator apps (even the one that comes bundled together with the Windows OS), can be used by university students who are striving to get their computer science master degrees, Basic Calculator emits totally different vibe – pure simplicity, ease of use, and an absolute minimum number of available options.
The user interface of Simple Calculator is a perfect showcase of its strive toward ease of use. It features just 17 buttons – a full numerical keypad, four buttons for simplest mathematical functions (add, subtract, multiply and divide), a “C” button for retrieving the most recent result, and of course the “equals” sign that will execute the currently active formula. The app does not feature any of the advanced formulas and is instead satisfied with its basic feature set that promotes nothing more complex than simple mathematical formulas.
Because of its simplified UI and feature set, Simple Calculator is a great choice for novice PC users (such as elementary school kids) or elderly people who are not interested in more advanced calculation tools or actively want to avoid them and prevent their accidental use by an unwanted mouse click. The simple visual design with large UI elements is also beneficial to elderly users with poor sight, who can use this app to reliably perform their important calculations.
While the simplicity of this app provides some benefits, it also leads to some negative points. The app is so simple that it even lacks the ability to number inputs from the keyboard’s numerical pad! This reduces the usefulness of this app and unnecessarily slows down data input which has to be done manually with mouse clicks on the visual Numpad.
Basic Calculator is 100% FREE and can be used on all modern versions of Windows OS. The app itself is incredibly small and requires no additional resources on both desktops and laptops.
