Overview
Dota 2 is one of the most popular games in the multiplayer online battle arena (MOBA) genre that mixes the gameplay features of the RTS genre with a more focused action-gameplay style of managing a single strong unit on a field that is filled with dozens and hundreds of weaker AI units.
The game tasks two teams of five players to traverse across the last map, utilize team tactics and precise Hero-specific moves, to outclass the opponents and destroy their central structure, all the while protecting their own.

Originally released in 2013 as the official sequel to the community-created mod for Warcraft III called “Defense of the Ancients”, Dota 2 has managed to grow into an international sensation, fueling various e-Sport tournaments and gathering a userbase of over 1 million concurrent players on Steam where it held the record of its most-played game until the arrival of the competitive FPS game PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds.
Since its launch, developers from Valve have supported Dota 2 as a ”Game as a Service” F2P game that does not ask players to invest money into general gameplay but constantly offering numerous DLC add-ons that affect the cosmetic look of the game. All heroes present in the game are offered for free, and all gameplay modes (including competitive play, training against AI bots, and numerous custom maps) are also completely free.
