Overview
Genshin Impact is a F2P open-world action RPG game developed and published on PC and other platforms by miHoYo, a video game developer and animation studio from Shangai, China. Released to the public in late 2020, this Asian video game immediately managed to gather a large amount of international attention, quickly becoming one of the fastest-selling Chinese games on the international markets.
On the launch, the game was praised for the detailed world, large freedom in gameplay, environmental storytelling, action and RPG upgrade systems, and the fact that even though it relies on the monetization-heavy “gacha” system, it still manages to provide users an incredible amount of gameplay before they even notice the need for in-game purchases.
Set in an eye-catching fantasy environment of the world Teyvat, the players of this engaging action game are able to take advantage of a very intricate RPG progression, action battle, and upgrading systems to explore the seven kingdoms and embark on a large adventure. Instead of controlling just a single character, the Genshin Impact game allows users to take control of four interchangeable characters in a party (out of rosters of 24 powerful heroes), enabling quick changes of heroes with a single button and taking advantage of their unique combat, skill or utility abilities.
The core objective of the main player (called the Traveler) is to find the lost sibling which got lost in the vast land of Teyvat, where seven kingdoms are all under the influence of their corresponding elemental power and the ruling god.
While in many aspects the Genshin Impact is compared by many as a close relative of another popular open-world RPG title The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, this game manages to distinguish itself by offering much more control over the playable characters, larger emphasis on cities and outposts, more advanced magic system where different elements can be mixed for more varied and powerful spells, and a larger roster of playable characters.
The game also requires an active internet connection in order to synch the player state between any of the supported platforms. This means, that players can start their game on PC, and seamlessly continue playing on their iOS or Android phone when they are on the go. While the majority of the game is focused on single-player only adventuring across the large land of the Teyvat continent, the players can also engage in the four-player online mode.
Genshin Impact is free to download and play, with in-game monetization offered to players who want to maximize the upgrade and action systems available in the latter sections of the large single-player campaign and available online modes. The game is optimized even for more modest gaming PCs running Windows 7, 8, or 10, requiring a quadcore CPU, 8GB of RAM, 30GB of free storage space, and a modest GPU with just 2GB of video memory.
