Overview
Trained on millions of publicly available photos, this web app utilizes the latest deep learning and artificial intelligence algorithms to parse the users text description, select the appropriate image elements, utilize one of the hundreds of available art styles (including not only generic styles, but also specific art design popularized by specific talented artists), and generate highly accurate results that users can download and use in their home, school, or work projects.
Main features
It was introduced to the public in the summer of 2022 when it was opened for public access via a Discord chatbot server that hosted versatile chatbots. In order to join those servers, users simply have to go to the official Midjourney website and click on the “Join the Beta” button, which will provide them with the access link. Today in early 2023, Midjourney is still in the beta test phase but access to its image generation tools is much more open, with Discord server moderators even having the option to add a specific Midjourney art generation channel on their servers.
To generate art with Midjourney, users simply must enter the text command “/imagine” and then write the description of their desired image, with as much detail as they can add. The process of image generation then lasts around 1 minute of time and produces a list of four images that the user can choose to render in more detail or request rendering of similar images.
This procedure of AI image generation can be repeated 25 times per day for free users. Premium users can access as many as 200 daily generations, and an even more pricey tier unlocks access to the fastest art generation hardware resources that can be used in a single day.
It is important to note that Midjourney is not an image retouching service. Users do not have the ability to upload their own images and request image-to-image translations, inpainting, and outpainting services that some of the competing AI generator platforms do have in their toolset.
