Overview
.NET 5 is the latest version of the software framework developed by Microsoft that allows developers from all around the world to achieve streamlined software development with the help of a large Framework Class Library that provides language interoperability across a large number of programming languages. Developed as a successor of .NET Core 3.0, this new .NET 5 aims to become a single big release of the .NET family and a home for developers that target to release their software on Windows, Linux, macOS, Android, iOS, tvOS, watchOS, WebAssembly, and others.
Utilizing the addition of hundreds of new API runtime capabilities, new .NET 5 64bit edition supports developing and deploying projects on Desktop, Web, Cloud, Mobile, Gaming, IoT, AI, and other platforms using the bundled tools such as Visual Studio, Visual Studio Code, Command Line Interface, and other interface services such as Runtime Components, Compilers, Language and others.
Optimized for faster startup, lower memory usage, and lower active hardware footprint, this new coding Framework is especially useful for developing applications for hardware-limited platforms such as mobile and gaming consoles. .NET Core allows developers to produce a single .NET runtime and framework that can be used on a wide array of platforms, retaining uniform runtime behavior, a single code-base, and increased performance no matter the type of the app that is being built.
.NET Framework 5 (64 bit) retains the most popular features of the previous .NET Framework releases, including side-by-side installation, cross-platform development and deployment, reduced project files, full access to a command-line interface, built-in integration with Visual Studio, Visual Studio for Mac, and Visual Studio Code, leveraging of platform-specific capabilities, and of course, full access to open source and community-oriented project development on GitHub. All these experiences will be enhanced with new add-ons such as Java interoperability for all platforms, more choices on runtime experiences, Objective-C and Swift interoperability for multiple operating systems, and more.
With a long-term plan for additional development, and already announced releases of .NET 6/7/8 releases between 2022 and 2023, .NET 5 version represents an excellent base for further development. Simplified for easier use today, dotNET is a platform that promises a bright future for all types of software development projects utilizing the same .NET APIS and languages to deploy a broad range of application types on all modern operating systems and chip architectures.
