Overview
WebcamViewer is a simple webcam manager application that can help Windows users of all knowledge levels to easily take control of all your webcams, view all of their videos feeds inside one window and take screenshots at wish. While the single developer at BustATECH did not implement various advanced features found in other webcam managers, he did not aim to surpass them with ambitious goals. Instead, with this app, he wished to emulate a useful feature that was natively present in Windows OS before the arrival of Windows 7.
Older versions of Windows (such as Windows XP) had a built-in webcam tool that could showcase to the user preview of the camera’s feed, enabling them to quickly and easily check if their webcam is performing as intended. With the arrival of Windows 7, this feature was removed, but can thankfully be accessed with the help of WebcamViewer app.
Originally developed as a simple click & run application with a bare user interface that could showcase just one camera at the time, over the years this app was developed into a more visually pleasing free product that can be useful to anyone who wishes to just check if their webcam is working fine. In its latest version, users can load all of their webcams feeds, select resolutions for them, keep the feeds active on top of other apps and reproduce them in a full-screen environment.
Installation and Use
Webcam Viewer is distributed online as a standalone Exe application that features no automated installer and uninstaller. You can download it inside a compressed RAR that weighs less than 1MB. Inside of that archive is a simple Exe file that you can place and run from any location on your local storage. In fact, you can even unpack it to a portable drive, and gain the capability of testing webcams no matter where you go and what desktop or laptop PC you use.
The app features a streamlined modern interface, with a row of icons of the top for activating simple settings window, “About” info listing, minimizing of the user interface, and opening of Documents folder where you saved webcam screenshots will be sent. On the bottom of the app are two dropdown menus marked as “Select Camera” and “Resolution”, with the “Start” button that will activate the webcam feed. There are no other visual elements or advanced features.
Webcam Viewer was intentionally made to be light and bare, but its core functionality and pleasing user interface can still make it very useful to any webcam owner.
