Overview
WinISO is a fully-featured CD/DVD/Blu-ray image file utility tool that has over the past several years gain the ability to take complete management over the data that you hold on your compact discs of all types. WinISO was originally designed back in 2000, and now it has been upgraded to be compatible with Windows 11, although the era of optical discs has faded away.
This includes built-in tools for the creation of CD/DVD backup disc images, conversion of disc images to any of the supported standards (including CDD, NRG, BIN, ISO, and others), direct support for data extraction from backup disc archives, burning of previously made ISO images, creation of bootable discs, merging duplicate files, mounting ISO drives so that they could be observed by your OS like they are running from a virtual CD/DVD, and much more.
While the latest version of this app supports several advanced features and ability to handle Blu-Ray drives and Blu-Ray ISO images, this free version is focused on providing users the core functionality that they expect from any competent CD/DVD image manager. The app has an intuitive interface that can be easily learned by both novices and seasoned PC users, with the ability to quickly create ISO images, convert them, extract files, and mount them in seconds.
To make the usage of this app compelling to advanced users who want to take full control over their apps, WinISO also features a comprehensive logging tool that records every action taken, enabling users to easily locate any error in the ISO creation process.
With full support for ISO9960, UDF, HFS+ image standards, and ability to create DVD video and Hybrid CD/DVD discs, WinISO is a strong tool for anyone who handles a large number of computer discs every day.
Installation and Use
Even though Win ISO comes with a full feature set needed to manage almost any type of CD/DVD disc and ISO file available today, its installation comes at less than 10 MB in size, enabling you to get it on to your system incredibly fast. To install it, all you need to do is to follow simple on-screen instructions and start the app.
The app itself features a very intuitive user interface, with a file browser taking the majority of the app real-estate, and the set of tools located on the top row. This includes the drop-down menus full of shortcut to all the tools and services (File, Edit, Bootable, File System, Tools, Options and Help) as well as main icons – New File, Open File, Save, Add Files, Extract, Make, Convert, Burn and of course, Mount. At the bottom of the app, you can see how much free space is left if you wish to burn it on a real physical disc. The app will not immediately ask you if you have a CD/DVD reader or burner present. It will prompt you for that info (selectable from a drop-down menu, if you have more than one of them present in your system) any time you want to create or burn ISO file.
The app is easy to use, enabling anyone to get comfortable using it minutes after first starting it up. This free version is optimized for use by home users, while the latest premium version is expanded with capabilities needed for use even in large business environments.
